Tour of Copeland

At 9.15am my husband and I arrived at The Beacon at Whitehaven as guests of the Mayor and Mayoress of Copeland.

We were fascinated by the exhibits at The Beacon, and the activities for children. There was so much to see that we will go back, and possibly take our grandchildren.

We were then taken by bus to the Haig Colliery Museum, situated within the former site of Haig Pit on the cliffs high above Whitehaven, with magnificent views of the Scottish hills. This is an educational and informative attraction based on local mining history, and a visit is recommended.

After lunch we visited the RAF Military Museum at Haverigg. Again, so much of interest to see. It too requires another visit.

A most interesting and informative day highlighting some of the attractions of this part of West Cumbria.
