ANNUAL CIVIC DINNER - ALLERDALE BOROUGH COUNCIL
At the White Heather Hotel, Kirkbride

As guests of the Mayor of Allerdale, Councillor Binky Armstrong and Mrs Mara Armstrong, we attended the Annual Civic Dinner with over 150 guests. We had a delicious dinner and interesting and entertaining speeches by Cllr George Scott about his Wildlife Centre, Cllr Armstrong about his year and Cllr Tim Heslop, Leader of Allerdale Borough Council about the business of the Council.

After the speeches there was dancing to an excellent disco.

We did not arrive home until 1am as Kirkbride is quite far from Windermere.

9.15 to 9.45am

SOUTH LAKES FEDERATION
Meeting with Marian Kearney (Inclusion Manager)and Arthur Capstick, Executive Officer for a general chat.

(I have known them both for a long time).


10.00 to 10.30am
Marian took me to visit students on a Preparation for the Uniformed Services Course, in action at Kendal Fire Station. Wonderful Instructors and very nice young people who were obviously benefiting greatly from the course.



10.30 to 11.00am
Visited students undertaking an Art Class. Some very impressive work.


11.00am - 12.00noon
A visit to The Queen Katherine School where I was to have met the Head Teacher Mr Stuart Wilkin, but unfortunately he was unable to be there and we have arranged another meeting.

I met various dedicated people and popped in to a Cook.com nurturing programme for younger students which was most impressive.

I really enjoyed the morning and was very interested in all that I saw.

THE WESTMORLAND COUNTY SHOW

As guests of Mrs Doreen Galbraith, The President of The Westmorland County Show, David and I enjoyed refreshments and met a great many people we knew in the President's Marquee. It was a very nice start to what was a very beautiful hot sunny day.

After that we looked at many of the stalls and visited one or two stands, including Michael Hodgsons, and later joined friends for a picnic lunch.

An altogether enjoyable day, with what must have been thousands of visitors. It was obvious that so much hard work and effort had gone in to all the preparations and we felt that on this day The Committee would really reap the rewards that they deserved.
