Thursday 19th November 2009

On Thursday 19th November we awoke to most terrible weather. (I had two appointments that day, which I shall mention later). However, the weather turned into an unprecedented storm throughout the day and night, and many people in Cumbria found that their plans, and in some cases their lives, had changed.

9.40am
David and I were to have been with Roger Bingham, the Chairman of Cumbria County Council, at County Hall, Kendal but because of flooding we were unable to go.

7.00pm
I was to have been at the Roundthorn Hotel at Penrith as a guest of the Chief Constable Craig Mackey, but the Police Ceremony Awards were cancelled because of the
storms and flooding.

I don't think at this stage anyone realised what was to come.
