CUMBRIA NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH ASSOCIATION
UNIVERSITY OF CUMBRIA - NEWTON RIGG CAMPUS

9.40 for 10.00am.

At the invitation of Dr John Perkins, Chairman of C.N.W.A. I was invited to present the High Sheriff's Shield.

We were warmly greeted by Dr Perkins, his wife and the Vice Chairman Judith Derbyshire, and offered coffee and delicious danish pastries after which we attended the formal AGM.

The Chief Constable then said a few words about the recipient (who had had no idea that he was to receive the award) It proved to be ex Sergeant Andrew Barnes, who recently retired from the Constabulary after being a primary source of contact for Neighbourhood Watch with the Police for many years. He had done an outstanding job and well deserved the award.

I made a short speech and then presented the shield to Andrew Baines. From the audience applause it was obvious that this was a very popular choice.

After the presentation Councillor Roger Bingham gave an excellent and amusing talk and then there was a 'comfort break' after which my husband and I were very sorry to have to leave for another engagement, thereby missing addresses by The Chief Constable and The Chief Fire Officer.
