SILVER JUBILEE APPEAL - CANCER CARE LAKES CENTRE
BLACKHALL ROAD, KENDAL
2.30pm
I was asked to say a few words and cut the ribbon at The Official Opening of the work that has been done at the Kendal Centre. The building work funded by The Silver Jubilee Appeal, provided a Dedicated Children's and Young People's Unit and a new Art Room, as well as an increased Therapy Room to provide the resources needed to manage the growing client base.
A delicious lunch, prepared by Christine Blease, where I met with the Patron Lady Shuttleworth, Chairman Robert Webb, and the retiring Chairman, the highly thought of Professor Malcolm McIllmurray, and Committee members. Also Peter Hearne, who manages the Centres at Lancaster and Kendal with great skill.
My first husband died from cancer in 1983 and at that time there was not even adequate pain control available to him. it was wonderful to see the free support, counselling and theraputic services that are available to people affected by cancer in the South Lakes and in North Lancashire.
