BROUGH CHRISTMAS FAIR

At the invitation of Mr John Dawson I arrived at the Castle Hotel at Brough for 12.30 (having previously made time to look at some of the stalls and watch the procession going down the main street). The Chairman of Eden District Council,Cllr Malcolm Smith and The Mayor of Carlisle, Cllr Bill Graham, and their wives were already there and we were soon joined by The Bishop of Carlisle, The Rt. Revd James Newcome. Soon after we went to the dining room for a buffet lunch where there was lots of discussion and laughter.

1.30
I read the Proclamation in memory of the Charter given to Brough in Stainmoor in The County of Westmorland in perpetuity. The Bishop then spoke and said a prayer and wished everyone well for Christmas.

After this we all processed down the main street where all the young and local people were splendidly attired in festive costumes.

Before we left, Mr Dawson kindly showed us some of the indoor stalls and introduced us to various people.

This whole project must have required a tremendous effort on the part of those involved and the organisers hope that it will become something that will happen on an annual basis.
